最近收到很多朋友和粉丝的对我在《小娘惹》里演出的鼓励，在博客上的留言和Facebook里的电邮我都看过了。对不起，不能一一回复，所以希望在这里表达我对大家的感激。谢谢你们对《小娘惹》的热烈支持，以及对于玉珠这个角色的投入。
这次要特别感谢监制让我挑战这个角色，因为原本试镜是为了菊香和月娘的角色，但也只能选一人来演出，所以落选后还有机会参与这部大制作真的是我的福气。接到玉珠这个角色，场数虽然不多，但人物发展有高潮起伏，有挑战，也能让我破出以往演戏的模式，正是能让我改变被定型的命运。这么千载难逢的机会，我真的是很幸运。
现在回想起来有种苦尽甘来的感觉。当时的压力不是没有，但身边的好友都不断的帮我把中心放在角色上，不要辜负制作组、经理人和观众的期望。其他的就由它去。顺其自然，活得更开心。
今天大家对我演技的好评，我得感谢导演的指导，加上众多演员所给我的戏，毕竟演戏不能自私，坏人不够坏就不能衬托好人的纯洁。一部剧的成功是团队的努力，所以你们千万也别忘了幕后英雄们呢！那如果我演技上有欠佳，请多多包含，内心功课没做足，下不为例。我一定会继续努力，为大家呈现更好的演出。

You are a really good actress. Ever since i watched the show where zhen ge ping acted as your father, i was drawn in by your wonderful acting skills, and have been anticipating your other works as well.
You really portrayed Yu Zhu very well! I am so happy for you =) I understand that it’s very stressful for you as an actress, because you have to consistenly produce good works for the audience and your fans, so that they won’t feel disappointed..
But i just wanna let you know that no matter what, i will still support you =)

I think you have improved a lot in your acting skills, in management of both physically performance and emotional feelings. Especially when you cried. It was so true and impressive. What an audience eager to see is not how pretty or “good looking” a crying scene shd be, but the way an actor/antress could impress the audience in tears for them. And, you had succeed, you did it! I has got to say well done for your role “YuZhu” in The Little Nyonya. But one thing which i’m not really understand, why YuZhu seems being forgotten in the end? I thought kinship is priority during that time? Why there is no feedback when YuZhu’s grandchild’s identity being revealed?
Anyway, I was anticipate more and more productions from you.

I completed my driving course right after my A levels. I was enrolled with the driving school and basically crammed my lessons to the max, so I think I got my license in 3 months.

well have to say that your acting is good, comparable to the other veteran actresses.
as for the script and the drama itself, whether it is poorly written or produced or not, the publicity is there. whether the next drama is going to be successful or not, will more likely depend on the script. IMHO, the scriptwriters and the producers must be logical in writing and directing the drama. We are an intellectual society, if the script or drama is not being good enough, it will not attract the viewers.
i certainly hope that from now on, the dramas are not catering to the lowest common denominator.
I do agree that though your role had little screen time, each time your role appeared, it was of a challenging one. To portray a character that appeared not that much, yet had to express so much more, wasn’t an easy job. But yet you managed to do it, it may not be the best to everybody, but I believe you did it to the best of your abilities. The Joanne that I was seeing on TV, was no longer “Joanne”, but it was “Yuzhu” that i was seeing. And I really think that this is one of the breakthrough roles for you, other than in “Like Father, Like Daughter”. :]
P.S. Thought it would actually be better if your previous shows were telecasted with gaps, not at the same time, so the audience won’t be missing you on screen that much. But then again, it’s just a thought. You think? :]
since e ending for little nyonya can’t be changed, maybe it can follow Hk series n have a sequel…e modern version of little nyonya?

老实说，让我穷追不舍，天天期待每晚小娘惹后部的播出是因为关心玉珠的命运，和满怀期待薇秀你所带给观众们的惊喜(演技方面)。
也许多数的戏码都围绕著月娘和陈锡的坎坷爱情，但我觉得玉珠的桥段让整部剧有一种焕然一新的感觉。
加上你把角色发挥得絮絮如生，不得不赞好!

Hi Joanne, I’m a big fan of your role as Yuzhu, simply because in the little scenes you are in are some of the best of the entire series.
A quick question; Have you always been Chinese orientated, or were you more English orientated when younger (or maybe even now)?

I’ve always scored very well in Chinese back in primary school, actively taking part in poetry recitals and composition competitions. I became more English oriented when I was in secondary school and in Junior College, (because I did higher language in Secondary school), I didn’t have to take Chinese anymore, so it was English all the way.

Hi Joanne, the reason I asked is because your schools ( Temasek Sec, VJC, NTU) doesn’t seem to be Chinese orientated, yet you’re doing Chinese dramas right now, with great pronunciation.
What made you decide to do Chinese dramas, since you didn’t have to take Chinese since JC? Also, did you participate in Drama as a CCA or subject during your school life?

I’ve always been strong in languages, and that’s just about it, haha! I didn’t have any drama or performance experience and entering this industry has never been an ambition of mine, so it’s really by pure coincidence, chance and luck that I am doing what I’m doing. But I enjoy the work very much and never stop at mastering the language because I love writing too and this gives me a platform to keep practising.
